Dele Alli has come in for criticism during a show on talkSPORT which claimed that the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has gone backwards in the past couple of years.
Radio presenter Andy Goldstein was joined by The Mirror’s football writer Darren Lewis to assess the midfielder’s performances after wwo seasons ago he scored 18 goals, 9 assists compared to this season’s 5 goals, 3 assists.
Lewis claimed that the 23-year-old needs to have a big upcoming season and also suggested that his injury hit campaign has had a significant effect on his displays during the past campaign.
The journalist also made the claim that if Dele has another season like he has just had he will find himself out of the England national team side.
The assessment of Dele is somewhat harsh given the fact that he has had to play a much deeper role at times this season due to our significant injury problems. The capture of Tanguy Ndombele will certainly help to free up Dele of some defensive responsibility to allow him to become a goal threat once again.
“What’s happened to Dele Alli?” ?
