Video: The tackle that sums up Sissoko’s transformation at Tottenham

Moussa Sissoko hasn’t had the easiest of times since he made his £30 million switch from Newcastle United (BBC) in 2016.

He has often been the subject of mockery from some sections of the Spurs support over the past couple of years, but this season has shown a considerable improvement in his performances.

Sissoko was recently recalled to the French national side after a year in the international wilderness and has emerged as an important player for Tottenham this season.

Injuries to the likes of Mousa Dembele, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli have given Sissoko the chance to benefit from their absence.

He was once again named in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting line up for the visit of Chelsea and put in another impressive shift to the appreciation of the Spurs faithful.

Sissoko covered 10 yards on Mateo Kovacic to track back and tackle him. It is this type of work rate which is proving he is undergoing a transformation at Tottenham.

Sissoko’s key stats against Chelsea

Won every single tackle (4).

Won every single aerial duel (4).

Completed every single take-on attempted.

10 recoveries.

1 interception.
