Video: ‘They never called back’ – Arsenal star admits Spurs snubbed him

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has admitted that Tottenham Hotspur turned down the chance to sign him a few years ago.

Aubameyang sat down with Sky Sports for a Fan Q&A segment, with questions written in from Arsenal fans being put to the forward.

Predictably, one of the questions was about the Gunners’ North London rivals, with the striker being asked if he would rather play for Spurs or retire from the game.

The 32-year-old insisted that he would rather retire and went on to narrate a story about how close he came to signing for Spurs.

He revealed that he even came to White Hart Lane but the Lilywhites subsequently did not call him.

Aubameyang certainly came off worse from his failed Tottenham transfer than Spurs did.

The Gabonese international was not only knocked out of the Champions League in the group stages by the Lilywhites with Dortmund but the Gunners have never finished above Tottenham since he arrived at the Emirates.

At 32 years of age, it is unlikely that Aubameyang will ever play Champions League football with Arsenal.
