Video: ‘They were brutalised by that Tottenham fanbase’ – Neville on mental and financial Arsenal blow

Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher have both claimed that the race for fourth place is done and dusted following Arsenal’s defeat to Newcastle.

Arsenal’s 2-0 loss at St James’ Park on Monday means that Spurs retain their two-point lead over the Gunners going into the final game of the season.

Given the Lilywhites’ much superior goal difference, they only need a point at Carrow Road to seal Champions League qualification.

Both Neville and Carragher have said there is no way that Antonio Conte’s men do not get the job done against the Canaries, with Neville insisting that Mikel Arteta’s men might not even be able to beat Everton in their final home game of the season.

The former Manchester United defender stated that the Arsenal players ‘were brutalised’ by Spurs fans at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the North London Derby last week and that they were not able to recover from that blow at St James’ Park.

Neville also added that Champions League football will give Spurs financial power over Arsenal next season.

Spurs Web Opinion

Being naturally pessimistic as a Spurs fan, I do not think for one second that the race for fourth is over. We certainly have it within us to throw it away at Norwich.

However, there is no doubt that Carragher and Neville are right about the significance of fourth place for both Tottenham and Arsenal, in terms of the added revenue and the kind of players the two clubs can hope to attract this summer.
