Video: Toby Alderweireld celebrates nutmegging big-money signing in training

Toby Alderweireld returned to the Tottenham starting eleven on Saturday for the visit of Leeds United and repaid his manager by scoring the third goal of the game.

The Belgian met Heung-min Son’s corner kick at the near post and saw his header squeeze over the line.

Alderweireld was certainly in high spirits during yesterday’s training session at Hotspur Way with the side preparing for this evening’s Carabao Cup semi-final clash against Brentford at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

During a drill where Tanguy Ndombele was tasked with trying to get the ball off a selection of players including Matt Doherty, Harry Winks and Harry Kane; Alderweireld cooly nutmegged the Frenchman before turning around to celebrate and ensuring that the camera captured his piece of skill.

It is great to see training being conducted in such high spirits on the eve of a cup semi final. Spurs fans are used to seeing Ndombele as the player possessing the trickery with the ball, no doubt Alderweireld will be reminding the club record signing of his nutmeg for some time to come.

Alderweireld’s central defensive partnership with Eric Dier looks to be our most solid option as a pair in the heart of the back four with Davinson Sanchez struggling with consistency and Japhet Tanganga once again only recently back from injury.
