Video: Tottenham star’s young son spotted consoling Neymar at World Cup

A video shared by David Ornstein of The Athletic appears to show Ivan Perisic’s son consoling Brazil star Neymar after Croatia defeated the South American side in the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

The clash between Brazil and Croatia was goalless after 90 minutes, but a superb goal from Neymar in the first half of extra time looked to have sent his side through to the semi-finals. That is, until a resilient Croatia pulled level through Bruno Petkovic after 117 minutes to take the game to penalties.

Croatia had already won a penalty shootout in their knockout round tie with Japan, and they triumphed once more yesterday thanks to the heroics of their goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic and some cool heads from the likes of Luka Modric.

It could all have been different for Brazil perhaps, had their star man Neymar not opted to go last in the shootout. That decision ultimately meant he never even got the chance to step up to the spot, as Croatia won 4-2 before Neymar could take his kick.

The result sees Croatia through to their second successive World Cup semi-final, while Brazil fail to add to their five World Cup victories once again.

In the video shared by Ornstein, a young boy in a Croatia shirt with the number 4 on the back – Ivan Perisic’s number – approaches a teary Neymar and offers him a handshake. The pair then embrace before the child heads back to his family. It has since been reported that this was Perisic’s son (The Sun).

It’s unclear whether the young lad is genuinely offering consolation to the emotional Brazil player, or maybe he just wanted to meet such an iconic star. That said, we imagine a seasoned pro like Ivan Perisic would raise his kids to be respectful, but either way, it’s really nice to see rivalries put aside and young fans getting to share moments like this with the players.
