England’s youngsters put on a real show at Ashton Gate as the Azerbaijanis struggled to even get near the home side, who dominated proceedings from start to finish.

The Young Lions put seven past their opponents without reply and will be marching into the European Under-21 Championships in Slovenia next year as one of the favourites.

Dane Scarlett’s first goal for Under-21s

Scarlett had been prolific in front of goal for England at Under-19 and Under-20 levels over recent years and he has not taken long to make his mark at the next level.

In his second outing for the Under-21s on Tuesday, the Tottenham striker, who came on as a substitute just after the hour mark, was on hand to take advantage from close range after the goalkeeper spilt the ball.

Another Tottenham gem shone on the night

Scarlett was not the only Spurs man who featured, with Archie Gray getting 71 minutes under his belt on the back of his impressive showing against Ukraine on Saturday.

The 18-year-old, who has already been used across the backline for Spurs season, played in central midfield again for the England Under-21s.
