Tottenham Hotspur’s new pitch has been successfully tested as part of the innovative tray system that it sits within.
Time-lapse footage shows the grass playing surface that sits in three separate trays split apart, before being joined back together.
The fully retractable grass surface, that has been developed by SCX will be used for Tottenham’s football matches whilst the artificial pitch underneath will be used for NFL matches, music concerts and a range of other events, in order to protect the integrity of both playing surfaces.
Each tray weighs a staggering 3,000 tonnes and will retract under the single tier 17,500 capacity South Stand to reveal the artificial playing surface underneath. The process of switching from one surface to another is expected to take approximately 25 minutes.
