Mikey Moore continued his stunning form for England Under-17s as he produced a fine assist in the quarter-finals of the European Championships, but it wasn’t enough to save England from defeat.

The season has now officially come to an end for Moore, who enjoyed an incredible rise to prominence at both club level and for his country.

For Spurs, Moore was called up to train with the first team squad in the middle of April, and though he missed out on a place on the bench for the North London derby, the teenager was among the substitutes for three games at the start of May, before making his debut with a late cameo against Manchester City.

The 16-year-old was then handed more minutes by Ange Postecoglou in the final game of the season against Sheffield United.

Mikey Moore’s assist is not enough for England

He soon jetted off to Cyprus for the Under-17 European Championships, and has played a starring role as England made it to the quarter-finals. Moore scored four goals in three group games, and added to his attacking returns tally against Italy on Thursday night.

In the 15th minute of the game, Moore picked up the ball in the attacking half and carried it forward with his usual composure and control, weaving between defenders before laying the ball off to his teammate, Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri.

The young striker took one touch to control the ball, another to push it out of his feet, and then hit a tremendous curling effort past the Italy keeper.

Italy equalised just before the half-hour mark with a phenomenal solo effort from AC Milan’s Mattia Liberali. The score remained 1-1 from there on out, and the Azzurri went on to win the game on penalties — Moore scored his spot-kick in the shootout, for what it’s worth.

It’s a shame England couldn’t get through this one, but Moore has had a fantastic tournament and can hold his head high.
