Video: Tottenham’s Tanguy Ndombele denies West Ham win against Lyon

Tanguy Ndombele scored an equaliser for Lyon to help the Ligue 1 club come away with a 1-1 draw from the London stadium in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final against West Ham United.

The on-loan Spurs man started the game and completed all 90 minutes of the encounter. His side were presented with a golden opportunity when the Hammers were reduced to ten men in the dying stages of the first half after Aaron Cresswell was sent off for a professional foul.

However, it was the home side who took the lead against the run of play through Jarrod Bowen.

Ndombele then came close to scoring an equaliser just minutes later when the midfielder saw his long-range drive go wide of the post.

The 25-year-old eventually did get his goal after he played a pass out to substitute Tete and made a run into the box to get on the end of a loose ball to fire home from close range.

Spurs Web Opinion

The decision to loan Ndombele to Lyon would have been vindicated if the midfielder helps the Ligue 1 club know West Ham out of the Europa League.

However, Spurs fans should be wary of suggesting that Ndombele and Lo Celso have futures at the club based on their performances for Lyon and Villareal respectively.

Both players had more than their fair share of opportunities under different managers and they did not set the world alight. It is also clear that Conte does not see either of them as being a good fit for his system.
