Video: Troy Parrott scores last-gasp stunner for Ireland to secure 1-0 win over Lithuania

Troy Parrott was the hero for the Republic of Ireland this evening when he scored a last-gasp winner in the 97th minute of their friendly against Lithuania.

Parrott picked up the ball on the edge of the penalty area and took two touches before unleashing an unstoppable right-footed effort beyond Dziugas Bartkus to send the crowd at the Aviva Stadium into a frenzy.

Ireland had scored four times in normal time all of which were ruled out for offside and it was down to the Spurs forward to grab the headlines.

Parrott came off the bench in the 63rd minute to replace Will Keane and looked impressive with his cameo.

The 20-year-old nearly scored in the 90th minute when James McClean delivered a cross to the back post which fellow Spur Matt Doherty cushioned to Parrott who did superbly well to make a contact with a good volley but was denied by Bartkus.

This will do wonders for the forward who has shown a marked improvement in his performances for MK Dons in recent weeks, he needs to have a strong end to the campaign to give Spurs the decision of whether he can push Dane Scarlett for a place on the fringes of the first team or whether another loan stint beckons.
