Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie Redknapp has claimed that Jose Mourinho’s decision to bring on Dele Alli and Gareth Bale against Manchester City will not have gone down well.

Tottenham were second best for the full 90 minutes at the Etihad to Pep Guardiola’s table toppers who tightened their grip on their quest for the title with a comfortable 3-0 win.

Spurs have now collected 16 points in 14 games and lost four games out of five in all competitions and remain in eighth.

Redknapp believes that Mourinho used Bale and Dele from the bench during the second half as an act to try and bail himself out, having treated both badly and is now asking the pair to help his side out.

The Sky pundit suggested that modern footballers do not buy into that method and the Portuguese is making a habit of upsetting too many people which he needs as allies rather than enemies.

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. I said right after Mourinho became our manager I don’t think it was Pochettino’s fault that we were not winning titles, nothing has changed my mind. The problem isn’t who manages us, it’s the players we have and the wages we pay them.
Look around to every club except Leicester and you will see you need to spend big to win big. Players who have a point to prove will try their hearts out, players also who want to win at all costs will also do well, but those who are in it just for the money need to be paid as much as they would get at other clubs or they simply wont perform week in week out. So the odd league cup or Europa cup is our ONLY chance. Against Man City we may as well collect our runner’s up medals now though.
