Tottenham Hotspur legend Rafael van der Vaart has speculated that something has happened for Jan Vertonghen not to have been involved yesterday.
The Belgian defender was surprisingly left out of the Spurs squad for the 3-1 Premier League opener against Aston Villa.
Mauricio Pochettino insisted after the game that he has no issue with the 32-year-old who has been a regular in his defence over the past five seasons (Sky Sports).
Van der Vaart was part of the Sky Sports punditry team and suggested that an incident may have happened at training or the central defender may have asked to leave the club for him to have been completely omitted from the match day sixteen.
