Vincent Kompany addresses his future amid Spurs reports

Tottenham’s rumoured managerial target, Vincent Kompany has played down the speculation over his future, insisting that he is enjoying his work at Burnley.

The reports linking Kompany with a move to Tottenham show no signs of dissipating as we get closer to the end of the season.

The latest such report came from The Sun, who revealed on Wednesday that the Manchester City legend has emerged as Tottenham’s number-one target to replace Antonio Conte at the helm.

The report claimed that Daniel Levy and the Spurs hierarchy have been ‘blown away’ by the work that Kompany has done since joining Burnley and the style attacking football that he has got the Clarets playing.

It was suggested that the 36-year-old would be ‘ready to listen’ to Tottenham if they made a move as he fears that Burnley may not have the funds needed to do well in the Premier League next season.

However, when asked about the Spurs job at today’s pre-Reading press conference, The Belgian has now chosen to keep his cards close to his chest, remarking that his future is not at the ‘forefront’ of his mind.

Kompany said, as quoted by Football.London and appeared to be unimpressed when asked if he was happy at Turf Moor: “I don’t waste answers on my future,” he said. “I said it on day one of my job here at Burnley, that one day in anticipation that there might be a question like this so crack on.

“I am focusing on Reading and the next games.

“I know the question but what can I say? Am I going to say I am not happy? “We are 14 points clear at the top of the Championship, so we are all right.

“The key part is always be happy, never satisfied.” he added when asked about his time at Burnley and what has made them a tough side to beat.

“This is something that is the reason why I chose Burnley, I said it again and you can trace back to my very first interviews before I even played a game with this team.

“I chose for people and I feel that I made the right decision and it is an enviable place to work in, trust me, especially when we are speaking about managers getting sacked left, right and centre.

“We have got the infrastructure and talent, it is an enjoyable place to work in. “I think wherever I am, in my head it is always the biggest job in the world.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It would have been quite easy for Kompany to be more committal and state that he wants to remain at Burnley but he has gone out of his way to avoid doing so. That suggests that the 36-year-old is certainly open to listening to any offers that come his way from the likes of Spurs.
