Video: Watch Dane Scarlett’s match-winning first goal for Portsmouth

Dane Scarlett opened his account for Portsmouth this week as his 25th-minute strike helped the League One club overcome Port Vale 1-0.

Scarlett has shown plenty of promise since his loan move to Fratton Park but the striker had not found the back of the net in seven appearances across all competitions heading into Saturday’s clash.

However, the 18-year-old finally managed to get off the mark at Vale Park. After being played through on goal, the on-loan Tottenham man kept his composure to lift the ball over Jack Stevens in the Port Vale goal, who had already gone to ground.

Goals breed confidence for forwards and Scarlett will certainly be relieved to have got off the mark, even though he had been playing well until that point. I would not be surprised if the floodgates now open for the teenager in front of goal.
