Tottenham became the first Premier League club in history to not buy a single player in the summer transfer market this year, with many of their rivals spending millions to strengthen their teams.
West Ham in particular spent over £100m on new stars in an attempt to push for European football. The Hammers then went on to lose their first four Premier League fixtures.
West Ham lost at home to Bournemouth and Wolves, as well as an away defeat to Arsenal and a thumping at Anfield.
There was nothing to suggest that the claret and blues had spent well in the summer, and certainly no indication of a top half finish, yet alone European football.
The team have however improved over the past two weeks, with an impressive win against Everton, and a draw yesterday to Chelsea in a game they should have perhaps won.
This prompted one fan to call in to Radio Five Live, claiming that his team could challenge for the Champions League spots, pipping Tottenham to fourth.
As if this didn’t amuse the presenters enough, a second deluded West Ham fan phoned to say that he though they could go even better and challenge for the top spots.
