Villa agree Downing fee

MIDDLESBROUGH have accepted a £12million bid from Aston Villa for Stewart Downing.

The England international had been tipped to join Tottenham, but a foot injury which he picked up at the end of last season could keep him out of action until as late as December.

Boro boss Gareth Southgate had previously warned suitors that if they want until January, there might be ‘four or five other clubs involved.’

Should Spurs now match Villa’s bid of £12million or set their sights elsewhere?  Whatever your view – have your say below.

  1. Just ask yourself how many times you have seen Downing’s name in the sunday paper headlines. There is no material for a MOTD video montage. He is like a slimline Andy Reid… I would have greeted his signing with the same degree of enthusiasm as that of Toda, Saib, Rasiak or the aforementioned chubby wideman.

  2. I’ve never been so pleased to see a player sign for another club. I can’t belive O’Neil – i thought he was the best manager arround – obviously not. COYS

  3. very overrated player imo, think if we don’t sign any one else for that left spot then bale can do just a gooder job as downing, too many average games in between the good ones every blue moon. Villa are welcome to him
