Villa boss Dean Smith singles out Spurs star as the ‘difference between the two teams’

Aston Villa manager Dean Smith has described Heung-min Son as the difference after watching his side lose 2-1 to Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier this afternoon.

Smith’s side came into the fixture full of confidence having silenced Old Trafford last weekend with a late victory against Manchester United.

Tottenham started the game brightly and get their reward on 27 minutes when Son linked up well with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg which allowed the Dane to curl the ball into the bottom corner of the net from just outside of the penalty area.

The South Korean showed off his ability to step up and be Tottenham’s key man on 70 minutes with the score level at 1-1 when he sliced Kortney Hause to shreds down the left hand side before laying the ball on a plate for Lucas Moura to look to tuck in from a yard out, which saw Villa defender toe the ball into his own net in what proved to be the final goal of the Premier League clash.

Smith felt the game is pretty even in terms of a contest, only for Son to be the deciding factor.

He told Football.London: “We gave it to them and they gave it to us. It was that kind of game. They got their goal in that period. The second half I felt we started well, but they had the outstanding player on the pitch in Son Heung-min. I thought the only difference between the two teams today was Son.”
