Lawro predicts Spurs to beat Aston Villa

BBC football pundit Mark Lawrenson has tipped Tottenham Hotspur to beat Aston Villa on Sunday.

Spurs travel to Villa Park to take on Alex McLeish’s Premier League strugglers as we aim to topple Arsenal from third place – sadly however, Lawro is also tipping them to beat Norwich 2-0.

With them just a point ahead of us with two gmaes to play we need to ensure that we win both of our remaining matches and hope they slip up.

He told BBC Sport Online: “I cannot see anything other than a Tottenham win in this game.

“Harry Redknapp said after his Spurs side were beaten by QPR that they had to win their last four games of the campaign to have a chance of finishing in the top four and, with a home game against Fulham after this one, I think they will do that. They are halfway there already after beating Blackburn and Bolton.

“It might not be enough to get them third place, though, and obviously they could finish fourth and miss out on the Champions League if Chelsea win it this year. But that is why the Premier League is so exciting this season, because there are so many teams fighting it out at both ends of the table.

“And, while I don’t think it is a massive factor that Redknapp has not been given the England job, I think it will have an effect because seeing Roy Hodgson appointed stops all the speculation.

“The Tottenham players won’t really have worried about it that much but they know now that Redknapp will be at the club next year and it is almost like putting your pair of slippers back on that you have lost for the last couple of days.

“Meanwhile, Villa are in all sorts of trouble and I just wouldn’t even tip them to pinch a goal. Alex McLeish’s side might get lucky because I feel results for the teams below them will keep Villa up, rather than a positive result for Villa.

“Prediction: 0-2.”

    • Yep. Norwich was meant to be "a walk in the park" remember? Even if we DO win and DO finish fourth. We won't get Champions League because Chelsea will probably beat Bayern. There's nothing I want more than Chelsea to fall at the final hurdle but doubt that very much. It's our own fault though, we were 3rd and 10 points clear of Arsenal… then lost the belief and the Arses took advantage

  1. Now it is different, we can be third!!! Be third and let Chelsea win! or Newcastle takes fourth and Bayern wins! COYS!

  2. 10 points and we f****ed it up..10 points and we…….grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
Why oh why do we always bottle it when the heat is on…..Viila have won 4 all season at home. We had 19 corners
and not 1 header on goal..what do we do all week in training! I wouldnt mind betting we have had the most corners of all prem sides this season, but how many get converted into goals…chances even?
