Vinai Venkatesham has reflected on the work Roberto De Zerbi has done at Tottenham so far and has revealed how the Italian will be backed in the upcoming transfer market.

Spurs had gone well over three months without a league win when De Zerbi took over, and it was difficult to see how they would be able to turn things around.

However, the Italian managed to get a tune out of the squad, with the Lilywhites picking up 11 points in his seven matches in charge and staying up on the final day of the season.

James Maddison has said that Spurs could have been relegated if not for De Zerbi, and the 46-year-old’s impact has now been hailed by the club’s chief.

Tottenham CEO Vinai Venkatesham raves about ‘extraordinary’ Roberto De Zerbi

The new Spurs head coach has seemingly not just won over his players, but also the members of the boardroom.

Venkatesham admitted that De Zerbi walked into a very difficult challenge, and made an ‘extraordinary impact’ to turn things around in such a short space of time.

When asked about the former Brighton man’s impact, the Tottenham CEO told BBC Sport: “I think he has made an extraordinary impact so far. We have to recognise that it’s early days, and we also need to recognise that he’s come into a very specific situation.

“It is hard to underestimate the scale of the challenge he walked into. And it’s hard to describe what a significant impact he has had in the dressing room with all the players.

“I think he’s an excellent coach, and we think that he plays the style of football that our supporters and the broader football public want to see.”

Venkatesham underlines Spurs’ priority this summer

De Zerbi has admitted that Tottenham need to rebuild their squad this summer in order to ensure that what happened this season never repeats again.

Venkatesham has now revealed that the focus this summer will be on making the squad more balanced and adding more experience and leadership.

The Spurs cheif added: “The squad needs work and the squad hasn’t got the right balance. We need experience and leadership and also that kind of physical robustness to play in the most demanding league that exists. We need to strengthen the club over multiple transfer windows but this transfer window, in particular, is going to be critical.”
