Waddle suggests Spurs player’s exit is a coup for Premier League side

Former Spurs midfielder Chris Waddle has claimed that Danny Rose is among the best left-backs in the world.

Tottenham loaned Rose out to Newcastle United last month after reports of a fall out between the defender and Jose Mourinho following the recent draw at Watford (Daily Mail).

The long-serving left back has seen his relationship with some Spurs fans sour over the last few years and the some were delighted to see the back of him when he completed his move.

The 29-year-old had given a couple of controversial interviews to the press in recent years including one a few months ago in which he suggested that he wouldn’t be forced to leave Tottenham until his contract runs out (Evening Standard).

Waddle, who made his name at the Magpies before moving to Spurs, believes that Newcastle have got a fantastic coup in landing the experienced defender.

He suggested that there weren’t many better than the England full back when he is at his best.

In his column for the Racing Post, Waddle wrote: “There aren’t many better left-backs or left wing-backs around and Steve Bruce has had a real coup here. I’ve watched him play for years.

“He’s aggressive, a good crosser, strong and fast, but sometimes his body language has been terrible.

“Well if it was all about a move back up north then you can’t go further north than Newcastle in the Premier League, so if this is what he’s been angling for then he can finally relax and show us what he’s all about and then get his dream move in the summer.”

I would certainly agree that on his day Rose is among the best in the world but sadly we haven’t seen him reach that level for more than two years. There were signs that he was coming back to his best towards the end of last campaign but he has been extremely poor this season. Given Tanganga’s emergence and the fact that we couldn’t risk Rose being a negative influence on the side, I believe we were right to loan him out.
