‘Wants to finish’ – Real Madrid boss makes admission on Gareth Bale’s future

Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Gareth Bale, who has been linked with a return to Tottenham, will leave Real Madrid when his contract runs out in the summer.

Bale has endured a difficult season after returning to the Spanish capital from Spurs in the summer, having picked up multiple injuries that have prevented him from getting game time (Transfermakrt).

El Nacional reported last week that Tottenham had already struck an agreement to re-sign Bale when his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu runs out at the end of the season.

The report claimed that Antonio Conte was keen on bringing the Welshman back to North London for a third spell and added that the 32-year-old only opted against a return to Spurs in January since he wanted to see out his contract at Madrid.

Ancelotti has now admitted that the winger does not plan on remaining at Madrid beyond the end of his current contract.

He said (via Fabrizio Romano): “Bale has had injuries, then his contract ends.

“He may not have had a good motivation but he wants to finish here as he deserves. It’s important for Bale to finish his career well here.”

I think it is pretty clear that Bale is only still at Madrid as he wants to be paid what he is owed in his contract.

However, I am not sure that a return to Spurs in the summer would make sense for either the Welshman or for us.

There is a huge question mark on whether the 32-year-old’s body would be able to cope with the physical demands of Conte’s set-up.
