‘Wasn’t there’ – Ange Postecoglou on what went wrong against Fulham

Speaking to the press after seeing his side fall to a very disappointing defeat against Fulham this evening, Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou lamented the lack of ‘intensity and tempo’ from his players.

Spurs went into tonight’s game knowing a win would take them into the top four, leapfrogging Aston Villa who play tomorrow.

However, Ange Postecoglou‘s side never really got going in the game at Craven Cottage, with poor defending and a lack of creativity up top costing them dearly.

Fulham took the lead just before half-time, and then doubled their lead just four minutes into the second half. The rout was completed on the hour, and the Lilywhites never looked like getting back into it by that point.

Spurs struggled in the second half

It could prove to be a costly defeat in the race for a place in the Premier League‘s top four come the end of the season, and Postecoglou has discussed what went wrong with BBC Match of the Day after the game.

He said: “We weren’t great, especially in the second half. The first half was even enough, we conceded a disappointing goal. In the second half we didn’t get to grips with the game. The intensity dropped.

“Our final third play wasn’t great. But it’s more the overall play that was disappointing. There are things we’ve done all year we’ve prided ourselves on, our intensity and tempo, but that wasn’t there in the second half.”

When asked if he feels like his team are taking one step forward, one step back, Postecoglou replied: “It’s more like four steps forward, one step back. If we go one step forward, one back, we’d be more like in 18th position.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham looked so flat all evening, and every single player came off second best against their Fulham counterparts. How we can be so uninsping and lacking in any sharpness after that result against Villa last weekend is beyond me.
