Watch: Former Tottenham star shown two yellow cards in one minute

Former Tottenham midfielder Moussa Sissoko was sent off in dramatic fashion in Watford’s clash against Burnley on Friday, with the Frenchman receiving two yellow cards within a space of a minute immediately after the Clarets found the back of the net.

Many Spurs fans will be keeping an eye on Sissoko’s progress at Watford, with the midfielder becoming an unlikely cult hero during his time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

He swapped Tottenham for Watford in 2021 before returning to France to sign for Nantes a year later, but following two seasons with the Ligue 1 side, the former Spurs man signed for the Hornets again last summer.

The 35-year-old has been a regular in the Watford midfield this season, but the Championship club have not had the best of campaigns, currently languishing in 12th place.

Sissoko was involved in a petulant incident during Burnley’s 2-1 win over Watford at Vicarage Road, which ended up costing his side.

Just after the Clarets had gone 2-1 up on 58 minutes, the former Tottenham Hotspur man was booked for dissent to the referee.

Moments later, even before Watford had restarted the game, Sissoko was involved in an altercation with Zian Flemming, shoving the Burnley midfielder to the ground.

That left the referee with no choice but to brandish a second yellow to the experienced midfielder, who would not want to re-watch his minute of madness.

Why Burnley’s win could boost Tottenham’s coffers

Sissoko was not the only Watford player sent off, with his fellow midfielder, Edo Kayembe, also receiving his marching orders just nine minutes later, which meant that Watford had to finish the game with nine men.

The win meant that Burnley remained tied on points with Leeds United at the top of the table, moving one step closer to promotion.

According to reports, Spurs will get a financial boost if Burnley get promoted as that would trigger an obligation to buy Marcus Edwards permanently for Scott Parker’s men.

The Lilywhites stand to gain as they have a 35 per cent sell-on clause for the winger who came through the ranks of the Tottenham academy.
