Watch: Toby Alderweireld gives his view of why Spurs lost to Liverpool

Toby Alderweireld highlighted Tottenham Hotspur’s lack of quality in attack following the disappointing Champions League final defeat to Liverpool in Madrid yesterday evening.

The defender played the full 90 minutes of the 2-0 loss and admitted after the game that Spurs could have hurt Jurgen Klopp’s side a lot more, with the Reds also playing well below their usual high standard this season.

Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Heung-min Son and Christian Eriksen were all largely ineffective during the match and failed to unlock Liverpool’s defence with many clear cut chances or lacked the quality of the final ball, especially during the first half.

The Belgian defender’s long term future at Tottenham is still in doubt with him being available for just £25million up until the last two weeks of the current transfer window. (Guardian) and will certainly not be short of interest from clubs across Europe.

Opinion

Alderweireld’s summary of what went wrong is spot on, the attacking players failed to deliver on the big stage and who knows when we will next get the opportunity to play in such a final.
