Wayne Rooney says he finds one Tottenham man to be ‘really refreshing’ to watch

Wayne Rooney has admitted that he has been really impressed by Ange Postecoglou’s work at Tottenham and backed the Australian to have plenty of success in the Premier League.

Postecolgou is cut from a different cloth compared to his predecessors at Spurs and the 58-year-old has quickly become a fan favourite among the Tottenham supporters, not just because of the style of play he has implemented but also due to his straight-talking nature.

The Spurs head coach is certainly not any less ambitious than the likes of Jose Mourinho or Antonio Conte, clearly having his eye on major honours.

That was demonstrated by his comment in his post-match press conference on Sunday, where Postecoglou insisted that he is not bothered about the race for fourth place and instead wants to see his side show progress with each game (Football.London).

Rooney expressed his surprise at how quickly the Aussie coach was able to implement his philosophy at Spurs and backed him to have plenty of success at N17.

When asked what it is about Postecoglou that has impressed him, the 38-year-old told Premier League Productions (07/04/24 at 8:20 pm): “How quickly the players have brought into how he wants to play. We have seen that as soon as the season started. The pre-season he had with them, he did a lot of work with the players and trying to understand how they want to play.

“You seen it at Celtic. You have seen it in Australia and Japan where he has won titles. He is really refreshing because he is always honest in his interviews, whether the team has done well or they haven’t done well. I think he is going to be a top manager in this league.”

Next season will be the real challenge for Postecoglou and Spurs as expectations will have gone up considerably. The Lilywhites will expected to compete for trophies and close the gap with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.
