‘We are close’ – Barcelona director hints Tottenham are nearing fifth signing

Barcelona sporting director Jordi Cruyff has revealed Clement Lenglet’s move to Tottenham is close and will be completed once all the necessary details are finalised.

Spurs are closing in on the loan signing of centre-back Lenglet (Fabrizio Romano), who endured a tricky campaign at Barca under the watch of Xavi.

The journalist revealed Tottenham will pay a loan fee and part of Lenglet’s salary, but there is no buy option so he will be back at Barcelona in the summer of 2023 as things stand. He also added that Antonio Conte had already personally called Lenglet about the move.

While Lenglet’s switch has not been officially confirmed as of yet, Barcelona chief Cruyff has since issued an update stating it is imminent with some minor details to iron out.

He said (via Reshad Rahman): “We are close to letting Lenglet go, it will become official when everything is done”

Lenglet is in line to become Tottenham’s fifth signing of the summer after Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma and Richarlison as they continue to sculpt Conte’s squad.

The 27-year-old is expected to provide more depth in defence for the Italian coach, covering the central and left centre-back areas.

A loan for Lenglet is a decent option for Spurs currently given they have not managed to secure their big-name defensive targets so far.

It isn’t the ideal player to bring in, but the depth he is able to provide is a good way of looking at this move as well as the experience he can bring.
