‘We are friends’- Willian responds when asked if Mourinho wanted him at Spurs

Arsenal winger, Willian refused to divulge whether Tottenham Hotspur made an attempt to sign him during the transfer window but admitted that he and Jose Mourinho are still good friends.

The winger has quickly established himself as a regular in Mikel Arteta’s side since his move across London to Arsenal.

The Brazilian was linked with a move to Spurs before he completed a move to their North London rivals, with Mundo Deportivo even establishing the Lilywhites as the favourites for his signature a few months ago (Mundo Deportivo).

However, Tottenham fans may not have been too disappointed to miss out on the former Chelsea man, with Spurs managing to re-sign Bale shortly after.

Willian admitted that he still maintains a good relationship with Mourinho and hailed the Tottenham boss as the best coach he has worked under in his career so far.

When asked whether the Portuguese coach tried to take him to Spurs, the 32-year-old reportedly laughed and told The Daily Mail: “We are friends, you know. He is doing a good job there.

“Inside the pitch I do my job and he does his. But outside the pitch we are friends.

“I don’t think that should be a problem, to text and say ‘good luck’ or something. I think until now he is the best manager I have had. As everyone said, the ‘Special One’.”
