‘We are studying Burnley’ – Conte previews PL fixture and says players need to ‘give more’

Antonio Conte has urged his Tottenham players to ‘give more’ for the side’s Premier League trip to Burnley on Sunday.

Spurs will be looking for a response against the Clarets after suffering a poor 2-1 defeat against Slovenian outfit NS Mura on Thursday night, where a host of fringe players failed to inspire.

A dissatisfied Conte conceded that Spurs’ level is currently ‘not so high’ while also admitting there is a gap between the side’s past investments and results on the pitch that needs to be filled.

However, the Italian is keen to put the defeat behind him ahead of the meeting with Burnley, as he seeks to build on last weekend’s hard-fought 2-1 win over Leeds United.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Conte said: “For us, it’s an important game – like this [against Mura] – because [Thursday] was an important game.

“Now we have two days to recover and to prepare for the game against Burnley and for sure we have to give more in all aspects – tactical aspects, physical aspects and also mentally. We need to give more.

“I know very well what kind of game we expect against Burnley. Burnley is a tough game, they play with intensity, they put pressure on, they play a lot of long balls and they are very good in set-pieces, so we have to pay great attention.

“But in this moment, we all have to think that we have to give more.”

Conte also explained how he and his Spurs squad have been studying everything about Burnley to make sure they are fully prepared for what is always a tough fixture.

He added: “Before a game, you have to know everything about your opponent. We are studying Burnley. They are working with a really good manager for many, many years, and this is important for them.

“I know the atmosphere will be hot, but we must be ready, ready to fight and to give everything to try to get the three points.”

Burnley away is usually a tough fixture on the calendar, so Conte will need to have them ready for what is to come this weekend. Spurs are in need of a bounce-back performance after the European disaster in midweek.
