Some Spurs fans fear that the club may decide not to invest in a new right-back this summer on the back of Gedson Fernandes’ display against Ipswich Town.
The midfielder started at right-back and was one of just two outfield players to complete all ninety minutes on Saturday.
The 21-year-old proved a constant menace for the Ipswich defence down the right-hand side and was involved in some impressive link-up play with Jack Clarke in the second half.
After the game, Jose Mourinho singled out the Portuguese international for praise and suggested that he did an excellent job despite playing as a right-back for the first time.
On the back of Mourinho’s comments, some Spurs fans are worried that he may decide to use Fernandes at right-back instead of signing a replacement for Serge Aurier, who has been heavily linked with a move to AC Milan (Football Italia).
Despite the Benfica loanee’s impressive showing on Saturday, some fans insisted that the club need to invest in a top right-back after claiming the youngster cannot be trusted to play as a full-back in the Premier League.
Don’t you dare! He is not a right back and will be exposed against average opposition.

Here's ur first hint that no right back is coming
Yet it won't be levys fault https://t.co/1Waz0fPpuX— SimplySpurs (@coyslife) August 24, 2020
Translation…Levy has told Mourinho we’re selling Aurier, not going to replace him so he needs to talk up Gedson as a right back to try and convince fans everything will be ok #thfc https://t.co/npnnnMkOh1

I'll say it. He was OK there against Ipswich.
In a Premier league setting though, it's a no. He will get turned inside out.
Just like you wouldn't put a CB as your striker, we need to stop filling in roles. We need actual RB/LB signings.

I've tried not to comment but the number of tweets I've seen on it, I can't resist. Didn't watch the game but Gedson has not solved our right back issues ffs 😂 it was a friendly against Ipswich! Worst thing is, if Levy watched, he probably agrees with you 🙄

Spurs transfer news have been very quiet lately. The new season starts in 3 weeks and i have a feeling we will start our season with gedson and tanganga as our right back.

Spurs Web Opinion
There is simply no way that Jose Mourinho is going to be in favour of starting the season with Gedson as our main right-back. The 21-year-old seems to have the attributes to develop into a good full-back but the jury is still out on whether he would be defensively good enough to play in the backline against top sides. I am confident that Jose would want to bring in a right-back like Castagne, who is effective in defending one vs one situations.
