One would have thought that in light of Spurs’ poor results over the last few months of the campaign, some doubts would have crept into the changing room about whether the team’s current style of play can lead to sustainable success.

However, based on what we have heard from the Tottenham stars over the last few days, there are no such doubts among the squad, many of whom are confident that the team can achieve big things under Ange Postecoglou.

Son Heung-min remarked on Tuesday that the players need to learn from the mistakes they made and do much better next season (ESPN).

Kulusevski shares the same optimism, insisting that Tottenham have their eye on the big prize and want to win every game they play.

The Swede told The Daily Mail: “It’s always about winning. Honestly, as a footballer nobody wants to come fourth, third, second. You want to be the best and that’s the truth.

“You want to win every game so next year we’re looking to be as good as possible and win every game we possibly can playing our style of football.”

Tottenham have lofty ambitions for next season

The 24-year-old knows Postecoglou will be hammering that same message when they return for pre-season in July.

When asked about the Tottenham head coach’s lofty ambitions of competing with the best sides in the Premier League, the former Juventus man said “He’s like that and he was like that this year too. But as players, we don’t want to just have to finish in the top four as a goal.

“If you play you want to be the best – nothing else. It’s important to continue the good work and that means every day we have to improve and become champions. It’s not the easiest thing to do. If it was everybody else would do it – but I believe we can do it in the future.”

While one can debate whether a title challenge is a realistic aim for Tottenham next season, one thing is certain: it will not be possible if the players and the coaching staff do not believe it is. It is great to hear that there is genuine belief in the squad that they can achieve something special next season.
