‘We can really push on’ – Dier urges Spurs to build momentum from Man City win

Eric Dier has called for Tottenham not to get carried away with their win at Manchester City but urged his side to use the result to build momentum moving forward.

Spurs secured a stunning three points against Premier League leaders City in a hectic 3-2 encounter at the Etihad Stadium.

Harry Kane nodded in the winner deep into second half stoppage time just moments after a Riyad Mahrez penalty seemingly earned a point for the hosts.

The win means Spurs have brought an end to a three-game losing run, keeping Antonio Conte’s side firmly in the hunt for a top four place.

Dier, who registered an excellent display on his return from injury, believes the win can inspire Spurs going forward but called for calm if the result is to be a meaningful one come the end of the season.

He said (via Yahoo! Sports): “Obviously a really good win for us, especially against them away from home, but anywhere to be honest. They are a fantastic side and I think probably the best in the world.

“For us to win after the results we’ve had as well, to come here and win is really big for us and important for us and hopefully it can push us on.

“To be honest I think this win is important if we take it in the right way. If we recognise that if we play with that intensity, with that commitment, that unity, if we play with that every game then we can really push on from this.

“I think we have to take this win in the right way, not get carried away but recognise what we need to do as a team to get results and play well.

“I think it’s really important how we take this result. We have to take it with humility and understand that as a team we can be very good.”

Tottenham have the chance to make it back-to-back away wins on Wednesday night when they travel to a rejuvenated Burnley. The Clarets recorded a statement 3-0 win away at Brighton on Saturday to send a strong message to their relegation rivals.

Dier’s return to the side was a welcomed one and he brought about a renewed stability defensively when Spurs needed it. The result could be a big springboard and lift the side going forward, but he is right that it counts for nothing if the ‘winnable’ games aren’t won.
