‘We cannot expect too much’ – Poch on why Ndombele may not be an instant hit

Tottenham Hotspur’s record signing, Tanguy Ndombele, was given yet another run out today as Spurs took on Inter Milan in the International Champions Cup.

The Frenchman has featured in the vast majority of Tottenham’s pre-season matches over the past month, as the club recorded wins over the likes of Juventus and Real Madrid.

While Ndombele has not yet shown his top form for Spurs, you can see his progress game on game.

The central midfielder was known for his driving runs in a Lyon shirt last season and Spurs are beginning to see a few glimpses of these talents in the Lilywhite colours.

Foreign players can often take a little while to bed into a squad, especially in the Premier League, and definitely in a Pochettino team, with the manager demanding so much in training.

Lucas Moura is a prime example, as the winger barely featured in his first six months at the club, but is now a regular and a firm favourite.

Pochettino had this to say on his expectations regarding Ndombele (Football London): “For him it’s difficult. We cannot expect too much. We need to accept he needs time to adapt to first a new culture, a new country, new habits. Of course, it’s only him who arrived to the club and that makes it more difficult. When a few are new they can help each other but it’s only him. We need to give him time but I am happy in the way he is adapting. He is open to improve and learn but needs time to see the best version of him.”
