‘Angry’ Spurs player insists Spurs deserved Champions League win instead of Liverpool

Moussa Sissoko has made the bold claim that Spurs deserved to win the Champions League more than Liverpool.

Sissoko had a big part in the final for all the wrong reasons after gave away a contentious penalty within just 24 seconds of the game in Madrid, which killed any hope of early momentum for Spurs, leaving them with a mountain to climb.

Sissoko has revealed that he was left ‘very angry’ after the Champions League loss and that he believes it is something that the team have to learn from for next season.

Spurs fans will certainly be hoping that Sissoko will be able to back up this statement with more of the dominating performances he put in last season in his revised box to box role.

This was undoubtedly his best campaign in a Tottenham shirt after what can only be described as a subpar first two seasons at the club.

Sissoko said (South China Morning Post): “Angry, I was very angry. You are in the final to win, not to play. Even if it wasn’t a great game from both teams, I think we deserved more than Liverpool to win this final, but unluckily for us, we didn’t win. None of us were happy, but that’s football and we have to learn from it.

“I’m sure everyone was still thinking about this final for a few weeks, but we have to move on. We have to have objectives for the new season.”

It’s clear to see why Moussa is angry as the penalty decision that turned the game on its head was very controversial and probably wouldn’t have been given without the new rules on handball’s that have been introduced this season. Let’s just hope that this anger motivates the team to do one better next year!
