‘We deserved to win’ – Conte reviews ‘important’ victory over Leicester City

Antonio Conte believes Tottenham deserved all three points in their 3-1 win over Leicester as his side kept up their pursuit of reaching the Champions League places this season.

Spurs eased aside a Foxes team rotated heavily by manager Brendan Rodgers courtesy of two goals from Heung-min Son and a Harry Kane header.

Conte’s men did not have it all their own way though, as Leicester fashioned plenty of good chances in the first half, including Patson Daka hitting the woodwork.

But Spurs assumed control as Kane nodded home Son’s corner before the latter scored twice, with his second a fantastic curling effort to seal a vital win in North London.

And Conte feels Tottenham were good value for money in Sunday’s win as he now gears his team up for a daunting trip to Premier League title-challengers Liverpool next weekend.

He said (via Football.London): “It was a good performance against a really good team. The game wasn’t easy and we knew very well that despite them making eight changes you can see the quality, the squad that Leicester has.

“I think we started well and then we got lucky when they hit the post but after this we scored with Harry and then we had chances to improve the result.

“We deserved to win the game. We got three points in an important moment of the season especially as in the next games we are going to face Liverpool and Arsenal.

“It was right we got three points. We deserved after really great work that we did in six months, no one could imagine us challenging for the Champions League.”

It wasn’t Spurs’ best performance by any stretch, but it got the job done which is so important at this stage of the season with Champions League football on the line.

Getting a win here was also key considering Liverpool is up next and going into that on the back of three points should give the players a bit of a lift.
