‘We don’t have a cushion’ – Lloris reveals what ‘hurts me the most’ from Brighton loss

Hugo Lloris has warned his Tottenham teammates not to throw away their hard work in pursuit of a top-four place after suffering an underwhelming defeat to Brighton.

The Seagulls ended Spurs’ run of four consecutive wins in the Premier League on Saturday – a streak that lifted them into fourth place in the table.

However, it was an opportunity missed for Antonio Conte’s side after rivals Arsenal then tasted defeat at Southampton later that day.

While Tottenham had been touted as outsiders in the chase for a Champions League spot for most of the season, captain Lloris has called for calm and says his team cannot afford to drop many more points during the run-in.

He said (via Evening Standard): “We don’t have a cushion so we have to go on another run. But we must take it game by game because if we look too far forward, we can slip in other games.

“What hurts me the most is we have suffered so much and to arrive in this position, it is not the moment to throw away what we have built in the last few weeks

“We received a lot of kicks during the season and it is not the time to give this boost to our rivals. We have a week to prepare for the next game, and I hope this defeat will help the team to finish stronger.”

Spurs next face a trip across London to face Brentford on Saturday, while Arsenal and Manchester United face each other this weekend.

Spurs were fortunate that Arsenal also lost last weekend, but that shouldn’t be the focus again for the rest of their games. They need to be winning their matches for a real difference to be made and that becomes a little nervy with United also lurking in the hunt too.
