Cristian Romero has insisted that Tottenham can fulfil their ambitions this season if they keep delivering the level of performance that they did against West Ham United on Sunday.
Spurs’ 2-0 win in the London derby was much needed on the back of two consecutive losses against Leicester City and AC Milan.
The 4-1 drubbing at the hands of Leicester, in particular, seemed to knock the stuffing out of the players and the fans, as it came on the back of three back-to-back wins, including a 1-0 win over Manchester City.
Harry Kane admitted last week that the team lacked ‘fight, passion or desire’ at the King Power Stadium and termed the performance as ‘unacceptable’ (Football.London).
Antonio Conte and his coaching staff would have taken heart from the way the side bounced back on Sunday as the Lilywhites solid defensively and controlled proceedings from start to finish.
Romero admitted that the performance against the Hammers has to be the blueprint for Tottenham moving forward.
The centre-back told the club’s official website following the 2-0 win: “We need to focus on ourselves. After a big win against Manchester City, we dropped off against Leicester City.
“If we can keep winning and performing as we did against West Ham, we can call on that in difficult matches. It’s all down to us.”
Spurs Web Opinion
While there were some encouraging signs against West Ham, the same can be said about our win over City but yet, we followed it up with one of our worst performances of the season against Leicester.
We have not shown any ability to be consistent over the last few months and it is going to take more than a couple of wins to convince me that the project is heading in the right direction.
