‘We have an agreement’ – Club director reveals they have reached deal for Spurs player

Sampdoria technical director Carlo Osti has revealed that the Italian club have reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur to take Harry Winks on loan.

The Spurs midfielder will head to the Luigi Ferraris Stadium for the remainder of the season which does not include an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the campaign (Gianluca Di Marzio).

Winks has made over 200 appearances for the club in all competitions since breaking into the first team under Mauricio Pochettino, but featured just 19 times in the Premier League last season and started in just nine of those matches (transfermarkt).

The Daily Mail claimed earlier this week that a number of clubs had shown interest in Winks, however, with the transfer window closing on Thursday, despite his preference having been to remain in the Premier League he was open to Sampdoria’s offer.

Osti told CalcioMercatoWeb: “We have an agreement with Tottenham, we are working out the last details with the agents, we hope to conclude as soon as possible.”

Winks has no future at Tottenham having fallen behind the likes of Oliver Skipp, Rodrigo Bentancur, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Yves Bissouma in Antonio Conte’s pecking order.

He now has the opportunity to try and catch the eye in Italy, where he will be afforded more time on the ball and look to try to improve his stock ahead of a permanent move away from N17 next summer.
