‘We have great respect’ – Conte reacts to Richarlison showboating vs Nottingham Forest

Tottenham Hotspur head coach, Antonio Conte, has insisted that he and his team have great respect for the opposition despite Richarlison’s showboating against Nottingham Forest today.

The Brazilian came off the bench and made an instant impact against the newly-promoted side this evening, setting up Harry Kane’s second goal with a superb outside-the-boot cross.

However, Richarlison then showed off his dark arts by juggling the ball for a few seconds in the Forest final third at 2-0, which quickly led to him being chopped down by Brennan Johnson.

Forest boss, Steve Cooper, was quick to condemn the actions of the former Everton man, claiming he would never allow such things to happen at his club (Jonathan Veal).

Antonio Conte has now claimed that he does not think Richarlison was trying to be disrespectful, and he was merely under pressure in a Premier League game.

He said (Football London): “At the moment I was with the bench because I was making another substitution. I think he juggled with the ball. It is a game and you are under pressure.

“I repeat it is OK. I don’t think Richy wanted to show disrespect to Nottingham Forest.

“Forest are a really good team with a great history in football and we have a great respect. Richy for sure thinks in the same way. Not disrespectful for anyone and I can tell you this.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I’m not a fan of this type of showboating. Show off your skills, by all means, but use them to beat a player or to keep the ball. If Richarlison did this and lost possession in a dangerous area, or if it led to an injury, fans would not be so quick to cheer it.
