‘We have to play attacking football’ – Stellini provides interesting Spurs update

Tottenham Hotspur have something of a mountain to climb when it comes to finishing in the top four this season, but Cristian Stellini has told the press his side can still do it if they play more attacking football.

As things stand, Spurs are currently in fifth place in the Premier League with 53 points from 30 matches.

Ahead of them, Manchester United have 56 points from 29 games in fourth place, while Newcastle United sit in third.

The Magpies also have 56 points from 29 games but have a far superior goal difference to Manchester United.

Spurs do still need to play both Newcastle and Manchester United again this season however, in what could prove to be absolutely crucial games in the hunt for Champions League qualification.

Spurs go into their next game, a home tie with Bournemouth, coming off the back of a valuable victory over high-flying Brighton.

They will be hoping to maintain that level of performance once more to see off a side they are expected to beat comfortably.

Interim manager Stellini has just eight games left to secure a top four finish for the Lilywhites, and in his latest press conference, he has outlined exactly what his side need to do to make that happen.

When asked if he thinks Tottenham can still finish in the top four, Stellini told Football.London: “We could do. We have to play final eight games like eight finals.

“We started with Brighton and we have to play attacking football.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I don’t think any Spurs fan would be half as disappointed with a finish outside the top four this season, as long as we just see some passion and some energy in the remaining matches.

We’ve still got a chance, but we have to make sure the standards are high and really put pressure on the teams we play.
