The Mirror reported a couple of days ago that Tottenham are readying a £50m bid for Lyon striker Memphis Depay.
The report claims that Spurs have sent scouts to watch the Dutch international in action multiple times this campaign and have been impressed by him.
While Depay failed to live up to his expectations at Manchester United, he has been brilliant for Lyon since moving to the French giants back in the January of 2016, having notched up 50 goals and 42 assists in 130 appearances for the club (the Express).
However, some Spurs fans on social media were left quite puzzled by the link with Depay and insisted that the 25-year-old is not what the club needs at the moment.
While a few fans were excited by the prospect of signing Depay, many felt that the defence should take priority in the January transfer window.
Here’s how some Spurs fans reacted to the report:
how about having interest in defense ?

We need a whole new defence first

Should sign a back 4 first.

Excuse me, but we need defensive players. What’s the purpose of having good forward players when the ones on the back is shambles.

Not the area we should be targetting. Worrying the lack of links with defenders

Would be a sick signing

Think defence is where the money would be better spent

Spurs Web Opinion
I absolutely agree that the defence should take priority with both Toby Alderweireld’s and Jan Vertonghen’s time at the club seemingly coming to an end. We also likely need to upgrade at full back with neither Danny Rose nor Serge Aurier looking like they have a future at the club.
