‘We need him’ – Mourinho provides update on Dele Alli after pair find ‘common ground’

Tottenham head coach, Jose Mourinho has now revealed that he and Dele Alli have engaged in conversation about the midfielder’s immediate future at the club.

Dele has largely been frozen out of the Premier League squad this season, with most of his minutes coming in the Europa League and League Cup.

However, Mourinho has now insisted that Tottenham need Dele Alli back fit and firing this season in order to add creation and magic to the attack.

The Special One revealed that he had already spoken to Alli since the transfer window slammed shut, with the two of them finding common ground.

Dele was heavily linked with a loan move away to PSG, currently managed by his former boss Mauricio Pochettino, although such a move failed to materialise.

While Mourinho added that Dele was still injured and needed time to return and regain his fitness, he also implied that there would be potential opportunities for the midfielder in the Premier League and Europa League.

Mourinho said (Football London): “He needs to recover from his injury, return to training and have a fresh start.

“Because last week he couldn’t even train – so that’s the most important thing.

“I had a good conversation with him yesterday, we spoke around this question that you asked me and I think we found very common ground. It’s an important period of the season for the team and for him also. We need him. We need a good Dele Alli.

“We are just waiting for him to be back to a good normality.

“Dele, Kane, Lo Celso, we’re talking about players that without all three we miss a little creation, some magic around the attacking areas.

“We had a conversation. Of course, a conversation doesn’t put a player in great form but hopefully the motivation he needs to be back for the team.

“We are in the Europa League, the Premier League and the FA Cup although I don’t believe he’ll be back for that.

“I think when he’s physically ready he’ll be in a good frame of mind.”
