Some Tottenham fans on social media have stressed the need to bring in new signings and clear out the deadwood before the end of the month after seeing Nuno Espirito Santo’s men lose 1-0 against Pacos De Ferreira.
None of the eleven players who started Nuno’s competitive game in charge against Manchester City on Sunday travelled to Portugal for the first leg of the Europa Conference League playoff.
The 48-year-old named a fairly inexperienced side which featured the likes of Dane Scarlett, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Nile John, with Tottenham’s summer signings, Pierluigi Gollini, Cristian Romero and Bryan Gil also getting a start.
The away side looked extremely disjointed and lacking in sharpness as they failed to create any clear cut chances of note through the 90 minutes.
Some Spurs fans on social media saw the lacklustre display as evidence that the squad needed to be strengthened significantly before the window shuts.
However, others called out the overreaction on social media, pointing out that it is still early days in the campagin.
We cannot rely on our depth whatsoever, we need new arrivals and hopefully a different starting 11 next Thursday

I hope we are selling Aurier, Sissoko and Ndombele. There is no other reason why those three couldn’t have played tonight.

I *think* this is why Harry Kane wants to leave

My god on here after @SpursOfficial game is so toxic and over reactions just ridiculous. Yes it was poor. Nuno took gamble it didn’t pay off. We can bring in big guns next week and will be fine. All this proves is the deadwood really needs to go quick. People need to calm down.

No way should any spurs fan be questioning the new signings. It’s a team thrown together and granted we have been poor.
Im concerned at the senior players but I’d say Gil, sessegnon have shown bright spells. Lo celso I have faith in and Romero should be a big player #THFC— Gards (@Gards44) August 19, 2021
Hot take: This game does not need nor does it deserve 95% of the analysis it will get.

Calm down @SpursOfficial fans this is a youth and fringe side, its invaluable experience for them. The win is less important than the experience.

Poor performance with strong pre season vibes about it but no need for mass over reactions. A few more 1st team players put into the x11 & we turn that around in N17 next week.

Spurs Web Opinion
It was an experimental lineup by Nuno and he would have certainly learned a lot about some of the players from this evening’s display.
Perhaps the Spurs boss will look back on his decision to name an experienced bench with regret.
He could have quite easily changed the game if he had the likes of Son or Moura to call upon for the final 20 minutes.
