‘We need to perform’ – Lucas Moura sets out Spurs’ hopes ahead of Newcastle trip

Lucas Moura has admitted that the subsequent days following the North London defeat to Arsenal were hard to take.

Tottenham were humiliated by their fierce rivals at the Emirates last month in what was a lacklustre display by Nuno Espirito Santo’s side which saw the game put out of their reach before half-time.

The Brazilian admitted that he was happy to see Spurs bounce back against Aston Villa to end a run of three top flight fixtures without a victory which saw Paul Merson claim that Nuno is under severe pressure.

Spurs face a tough trip to St James’ Park to face Newcastle United at the weekend and will face a Magpies side who are likely to have an extra spring in their step following their recent takeover.

Lucas told the club’s official website: “We needed that win.

“It was a very good game, and we deserved the three points. The lads kept going and if we continue to do the same, we can improve a lot and keep going in a winning way.

“Every game is a war in the Premier League. We need to perform, to give 100 per cent, nothing less. We are very strong, we need to trust in ourselves and believe that we can go out, perform, win games and move up the table, that’s our objective.”
