Antonio Conte has revealed that he is waiting to have a conversation with the Tottenham hierarchy regarding new signings ahead of the January transfer window.
Conte made it clear in his press conference last week ahead of Tottenham’s clash against Watford that he has completed his evaluation of the squad.
He said that there was a significant gap in terms of quality between the Spurs squad and the best sides in the Premier League, and admitted he was waiting for a meeting with the club hierarchy to discuss potential incomings and departures.
The Tottenham head coach has now once again spoken about potential new signings during this month’s transfer window, reminding the club of what was promised when he first arrived.
“When I was appointed, I was told that we would meet to talk about new signings. Now I have everything clear [on his current team].”
Conte revealed he wants to add players with the right mentality to his squad in order to compete for major honours in the future but admitted the process will take time.
The 52-year-old added: “We need players with the right mentality and with the quality, players that deserve to play for Tottenham and aspire to be competitive, to fight for this shirt, to win something.”
“For sure, we need this. I’m making my evaluations and then I’ll speak with the club but I’m ready to continue to work in this way.
“But it’s important that we have to know the situation is not simple. It’s not enough to do this [clicks fingers] and change the situation.”

With the transfer window now having opened, one would have expected Conte to have already held those discussions with Fabio Paratici and Daniel Levy.
It will be interesting to see what profile of players we target in January and if there is a slightly different approach to the one we took in the summer.
Paratici prioritised up and coming players like Romero, Emerson and Gil in the previous window but perhaps Conte might be demanding one or two established stars with a winning mentality.
