‘We received a proposal’ – Club president makes admission about Spurs-linked defender

Gremio president Dennis Abraham has admitted that the club are in negotiations with Brentford for right-back Vanderson, who is also reported to be on Tottenham’s radar.

Vanderson has matured impressively since breaking into the Brazilian club’s senior side around a year ago.

Globo Esporte reported in the summer that the 20-year-old was wanted by Spurs, with the North London club thought to have requested information about the right-back. However, Gremio allegedly refused to enter into talks over the defender’s sale.

UOL claimed a few days ago that Brentford were set to win the race for Vanderson ahead of both Tottenham and Newcastle after the Bees’ offer for the youngster was accepted by Gremio.

It was claimed that Thomas Frank’s side are expected to pay around €14m (£11.9m) including add-ons for the full-back.

The Gremio president has now confirmed that the club are indeed in talks with Brentford regarding Vanderson.

Abraham told Gremistas: “We received a proposal (from Brentford), which is being discussed with the club and its manager. We are waiting for them to define the deal.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I do expect Spurs to be in the market for a right-back to offer competition to Emerson Royal, with Conte seemingly not taking a liking to Matt Doherty.

Max Aarons would be perfect as he still has time on his side to improve and the Norwich star will perhaps not be as expensive as he would have been six to twelve months ago.
