‘We smacked you guys every time’ – Former Arsenal star trolls Spurs fan

Ashley Cole has trolled a Tottenham fan on social media who questioned the quality of Arsenal’s youth development.

There is certainly no love lost between Cole and fans of the white half of North London, with the defender having featured mainly during his career for the club’s two biggest rivals in Arsenal and Chelsea.

Cole is not particularly highly thought of by Arsenal fans either having left the North Londoners to join Chelsea during the peak of his career which saw him dubbed as ‘Cashley’ following a lucrative move to Stamford Bridge (talkSPORT).

The left-back is widely considered one of the best ever English players in his position but he was not necessarily a youth prodigy, having not established himself as a regular for Arsenal until he was 22 (Independent).

During a conversation with former Brighton striker Leon Knight on Twitter, Cole revealed that he learned when he was 19 years of age that strikers timed their movements by looking for signals in a defender’s eyes.

Responding to the 39-year-old’s revelation, a Spurs fan interjected with the comment: [That’s] probably why you were so desperate to leave Arsenal. Their youth development must have been atrocious given that you only picked that up at 19.”

Cole then hit back at the fan in question by suggesting that the Gunners used to get the better of their rivals on a regular basis during his days in youth football.

Spurs Web Opinion

While I naturally hated Cole during his playing days due to his Arsenal and Chelsea allegiances, I always did admire how consistent he was, both defensively as well as going forward. I believe he was one of the few from England’s ‘Golden Generation’ who was underrated as he was easily up there with the best in the world in his position.
