‘We talk every day’ – Conte answers question on possible new Spurs contract

Antonio Conte attempted to brush aside any talk of a potential new Tottenham contract in his press conference this afternoon, with Spurs back in action against Brentford on Boxing Day.

The questions were bound to appear after The Athletic reported earlier in the week that some sources close to key figures at Spurs are now less optimistic that Conte will sign a new contract.

The report claimed that Daniel Levy has always remained honest with Conte about the limited amount of money available for transfers, and the idea of the Italian leaving at the end of the season is now more realistic.

The Daily Mail also reported that Levy is not concerned by the situation at the moment, although Conte wants to see evidence that the club can match his ambition.

In his press conference today, Conte was keen to point out that he has another six months on his current Spurs contract, and he talks with the hierarchy every day about finding the best solution for all involved.

He said (Football London): “I think I would like also in the future to not speak about this matter in the press conference because I think it is much more important the game we are going to play.

“In this case, Brentford but what I can tell you is I am really happy in the club, to work here and I have a really good relationship with the club.

“We talk every day and try to find in every situation the best solution but I think we have six months to stay together, to enjoy the situation and then we find, I repeat, the best solution. But I am really happy here. This is very, very important for me.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

It sounds like one of two things will happen. Spurs will finish the season strong and convince Conte to stay/sign a new deal. Or Conte will leave in the summer and Levy will replace him with Pochettino, who is likely to be able to convince Harry Kane to stick around. That is my gut feeling.
