‘We want to keep him’ – Club captain opens up on rumours around Spurs target

Fiorentina defender and captain Cristiano Biraghi has expressed his concern about losing Tottenham target Dusan Vlahovic but admits he is not surprised to see so much interest in the striker.

Vlahovic, 21, who has scored eight goals in 12 Serie A appearances this season, is seemingly a wanted man across Europe.

Tottenham reportedly chased the Serbia international during the summer amid the uncertainty surrounding the future of Harry Kane, but a deal never came to fruition after it became apparent the England captain would be staying put.

Latest reports claim rivals Arsenal have met with Vlahovic’s representatives, but Spurs could now be set to reignite their interest in the striker following the appointment of Antonio Conte.

While the rumours continue to swirl around Vlahovic, Fiorentina skipper Biraghi hopes the club can keep hold of their talisman, who he claims is so important to how the side performs.

Speaking to TuttoMercatoWeb, he said: “Dusan [Vlahovic] can make the difference in any team. He has the qualities to become one of the best strikers in the world if he keeps up his consistency.

“He is, alongside [Erling] Haaland and [Robert] Lewandowski, the most prolific player in club football in 2021. His level is (the same).

“He doesn’t just score, he sacrifices a lot. Having him in the team is fundamental for us. We want to keep him. Those who don’t have him, on the other hand, would like to sign him. That is normal given his talent.

“As long as he wears this shirt, he will give everything for Fiorentina.”

Vlahovic has quickly emerged as a forceful striker in the last couple of years, and Conte may look to sanction a move for him going forward. He won’t come cheap, though, and there will be plenty of interest from other sides again which won’t make it an easy signing.
