‘We want to win’ – Postecoglou disagrees with Spurs fans who want Man City victory

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou has admitted he cannot understand why some fans want to see his side lose to Manchester City despite the fact it would favour Arsenal.

The North Londoners returned to winning ways on Saturday with a 2-1 win against Burnley which ended a run of four consecutive defeats.

Spurs are back in action at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the final time this season tomorrow night when they host the current Premier League champions.

Postecoglou’s side still have a slim chance of catching Aston Villa in fourth place which would require Tottenham to win both matches and Villa’s results to go in their favour against both Liverpool and Crystal Palace.

If Spurs take points off City it will be to the benefit of Arsenal

Victory for Tottenham tomorrow however would see them hand their North London rivals Arsenal a boost in their hopes of winning the Premier League trophy ahead of City.

Postecoglou cannot get his head around some sections of the Tottenham fanbase wanting to lose against Manchester City to all but end Arsenal‘s hopes.

He told Football.London: “If you’re going by social media then 99% of them will [want Spurs to lose] but please don’t tell me that’s your world. If it is you need counselling. I understand rivalry but I’ll never understand anyone wanting their own team to lose.

“People are allowed to feel the way they do but I’ve been consistent and strong in my belief that it’s important for this club to get to where we want to, not look for a silver bullet, it’s hard work, perseverance, quality not false dawns and know what real success looks like. Anything in between, bragging rights, are meaningless to me. We’ve got a game tomorrow we want to win.

“You think the majority of our fans don’t want us to win? I don’t see it that way, I think the fans inside the stadium will create the same atmosphere they always do.”
